Requirements for participation
Festival Participation
- There is no submission fee.
- Premier status is not a requirement.
- The age limit of the 2 Minutes Shorts Competition has been lifted.
- If the original language is neither German nor English, German or English subtitles must be available.
- For selected works no fee/film rental will be paid. Works seleceted for special programs are individually paid.
- Submitted works should not be older than production year 2023. Works submitted before during the last years are excluded. Exception: Submitted works, that are selected for the competitions of the respective year and that cannot be shown due to competing premiere options (e.g. Berlinale).
- Films and videos submitted to the »International Short Film Competition« can't be longer than 30 minutes.
- Commissioned works and trailers are excluded from participation.
- Notifications of confirmations for the competitions will be sent out till November 30th, 2024. Notifications of cancellations will be sent out before the start of the festival.
Selection Procedure
The works for the competition programs are selected from the submissions. Each festival section has its own selection committee, whose members decide on the participation in the festival program.
Each prize has its own independent jury, which decides on the award during the festival.
Visiting the Festival
We invite the artists whose works have been selected to the festival, grant them a travel allowance and arrange for them to stay in private accommodation. The Accreditation ist free of charge. A Q&A is planned for each screening as well as artist talks for the Expanded Media Competition.
Film & Video (International Short Film Competition, 2 Minutes Short Film Award, Supporting Programme)
Works of any genre can be submitted. Submitted films and videos being longer than 30 minutes may run in a special programme outside the competition. The winner films will be screened at a special event after the Filmwinter. In individual cases, we reserve the right, to include applications in this area in the Expanded Media Competition after consultation with the artists.
International Competition Expanded Media - Exhibition
Submissions can include installations, net art, interactive works and environments, app-based applications and games, augmented, mixed and/or VR projects, mediabased performances and interventions in an exhibition context or public spaces. In individual cases, we reserve the right, to include applications in this area in the International Short Film Competition after consultation with the artists. Please, enclose information about the work, illustrative material, detailed plans, and a technical requirement list (including insurance value of required equipment and/or equipment/material that can eventually be provided).
Expanded Live-Acts (supporting programme, out of competition)
Submissions include works in the field of analog film practices, audiovisual performances and immersive XR projects as well as digital sound. In individual cases, we reserve the right, to include applications in this area in the Expanded Media Competition after consultation with the artists.
Shipment
The applicant must cover shipment/mailing costs for preview material and screening copies, the return shipment will be covered by Wand 5 e.V. Selected works will be kept in Wand 5's archive. Entries from abroad must bear the notice: »Temporary import - no commercial value«. For shipment of screening copies from outside of the European Community, please, include a pro forma invoice with a declaration of value not exceeding 20 US $. The screening copies have to arrive at the festival office before December 15th, 2024.
Insurance
The screening copies and installations are insured for the value of the material from the date of arrival until the date of return. Claims for damages have to be put in immediately after the return.
