Artist Talk: Daniel Burkhardt
Based on prop-like projected architecture, the exhibition draws a course through evacuated rooms and sealed urban surfaces. A spatial dramaturgy, circling around the act of seeing and understanding, unfolds in the motions between the image areas.
The starting point here is the assumption that people create themselves in the form of stories in which they recognize and comprehend themselves. In this way, they weave an increasingly growing infinite net of narration out of the chaos of unclear and manifold fragments of perception.
The formally reduced videos and video collages question the mental automatisms of the construction of stories and allow for them to be observable. It is exactly at the point at which associative threads are running out, at which the fabric of the narration tears open and the verifiable sense shifts – that is where eventually the space for other sorts of stories (or history) opens up.
