Based on sixteen different film props from prop rentals of the film industry, Sixteen Props explores fetishised objects which – with regards to the classic Hollywood cinema – represent female characters and their unfulfilled desires. Through recurring text fragments from original scripts dealing with the subjects of “break up”, “stalking” and “ghosting” produces an imaginary filmic figure that remains in the shadows. Within the loops of the sixteen different screens new narrations and mysterious entanglements keep blending and blurring the borders of illusion, projection and reality over time.

As an artistic duo, Miriam Gossing and Lina Sieckmann are working at the borderlines of film and visual arts. In their work, they explore urban and private architectures, hyper-staged interiors, collective desire and the ghosts of remembrance. Their works have been presented and awarded around the world in exhibitions and at festivals (for example Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart Berlin; Julia Stoschek Collection, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Image Forum Tokyo, Anthology Film Archives New York City).

Media Space Programme (PDF)

(*) Media Space wants to offer a platform for a media discourse in Stuttgart to discuss topics and present projects but also a place of productive and direct debate. The platform will be a year-round initiative by Wand 5 e.V., organisers of Stuttgarter Filmwinter – Festival for Expanded Media. The interdisciplinary approach allows an exchange for related disciplines and promotes the exploration of other perspectives through formats such as workshops, lectures, live-acts and Network Culture works.

The Filmwinter Stuttgart Explores Absence

Es una casa tan grande la ausencia
que pasaràs en ella a través de los muros
y colgaràs los cuadros en el aire.
Es una casa tan transparente la ausencia
“Soneto XCIV”, Pablo Neruda

The Festival edition is located at the interface between a media-dominated society in all its facets and all of the things falling through or getting blurred by the grid of such a society: what is not said or depicted, the things pushed aside or rejected. We are longing for absence and its traces. Like a test strip, our Festival delves into the big house of absence - placing it at the macro focus.

Short Films, Media and Net Art, AV Performances and Workshops

For the 33rd time, the best submissions for the international competition categories Short Film, Media in Space and Network Culture will be at the centre of the festival. A varied supporting programme comprising retrospectives, performances and lectures by artists from all over the world will round off the nationally renowned film and media festival. The programme for children, teenagers and the whole family will also feature exciting surprises.

Main Festival Locations: FITZ! Zentrum für Figurentheater, Theater tri-bühne und Kunstbezirk

The 33rd Filmwinter Stuttgart - Festival for Expanded Media - will take place from 16 to 19 January 2020 at the venues FITZ! Zentrum für Figurentheater and Theater tri-bühne. Another co-operation partner is the Kunstbezirk where the media and net-art exhibition will be on display.
