When the Trick is Revealed, the Magic Becomes even more Magical & Things and Wonders
My work is accessible in a universal way via its wit and mischief. It is grounded in genuine experimentation of the core mechanisms of motion and time based art. I go to the heart of every question and start from zero, reinventing core premises with my own perspective. My Non-Stop Stop-Motion works reinvent a contemporary expanded cinema and deal with the poetic mechanics of persistence of vision. My works with everyday objects (shoes, brooms, pots etc.) deal with social paradoxes and let us see a familiar world from a different perspective. (Anna Vasof)
A programme about an ongoing artistic research project at the crossroads between video, performance, fine arts and the overarching area of expanded cinema. It investigates where we can find the essence of cinematic illusion when we look into everyday life and what happens when we use everyday situations, objects, spaces and actions as cinematographic mechanisms. The object, space or action that forms the basis of the cinematic illusion and the illusion itself quite often appear in the videos simultaneously. The mechanisms and the illusions not only enter into a dialogue, but they also contradict one another. This activity makes Non-Stop Stop-Motion a self-referencing method of telling stories, which contain irony and metaphor about personal and social conflicts.
Things and Wonders deals with everyday things familiar to everyone: brooms, shoes, wipers, harmonicas etc., used in a way that is far removed from their ordinary designation. The artist constructs absurd and impractical situations from them so that familiar objects alter their original functional purpose to small wonders. In that way the element of the unexpected is added to everyday objects that dispatch us from reality, allowing us to see the world in a new perspective.
